Does an Apple Mac need an anti-virus?

I am a new Mac user (13'' MacBook Pro) and I am wondering if I need to install an anti-virus software to prevent problems like those I encountered with my PC.

I have seen numerous anti-virus programs available online (I uploaded the screenshot) but I'm not sure if I should download one because a lot of people say I don't have to.

Hoping you could answer my question.

Thanks!

As far as Mac is concern it does not need any antivirus because most of the time virus could attack your system when it is connected to network, so most of the antivirus software are program for pc users that is they are *.exe file which cannot be execute in Mac OS.

So there would not be much problem for Mac with virus that occurs through network. At the same time that does not mean that there is no virus for Mac, there are few but its very rare, so the point is there is no much need of Antivirus for Mac.

One important thing is if your Mac has a secondary OS running on, that is if you are running Windows OS in Mac as a secondary OS than, when ever you connect to network through Windows OS in your Mac, there is an every chance of getting virus in your system, so always a Mac with Windows in it should carry an Antivirus

Prevention is better than cure. You should get an antimalware or an antivirus program to protect your computer. It has not been fully proven by anyone that the Mac OS cannot be attacked by a virus. Even though the attacks are rare, it would be safe to take a precaution.

Apart from the virus protection the antimalware will also provide protection against adware, spyware and it is also said that protection will be granted to the recipients of your emails (there is a chance that you might unwillingly send an email with tones of viruses to your colleagues).

Critics say that Windows is more susceptible to virus attacks because of its popularity. It is also being said that the mac sales are growing. This would no doubt increase its vulnerability to viruses. Installing an antivirus software will do no serious harm, although it is said that there will be a decrease in system performance.

Because you are a novice to Apple Mac I’m here trying to explain this as much simply as possible.

If you never surf the internet you need not to install an antivirus. But if you do you need to go for an antivirus.

The reason why Mac is prone to malware is Mac OS applications doesn't share a common registry as Windows. Mac applications uses individual preference files and thus the types of global configuration changes which enable so much of Windows malware is simply not as feasible on a Mac.

So if you think you want to buy an antivirus for Mac you can check

To find good antivirus software for your Mac PC.

Yes Macs do need an AV tool because previous Malware and Trojans attacks have made this more clear that intruders are now able to intrude into Macs.

So better to equip oneself with an AV program.
