I am very happy in using this interesting short audio messages feature using iMessage of my Apple device. But I am very much worried about the storage of these messages. How long my device does store them? Is it always available till I delete them manually and also do they take lots of space in my phone?
Actually, it is unclear as to how long will the server keep your iMessage messages. According to Apple, “iMessages are kept on Apple servers only as long as is necessary to deliver the message”. In other words, they will not delete any of your iMessages. It is true that your conversations with your friends using iMessage are stored on your device.
But the iMessages on your phone are only the copies of the original messages. The original messages are kept in the server and I guess will remain there even if you delete the message from your phone. This is because one of iMessage users was able to use iMessage on a new device and when he started a new conversation with someone whom he had past thread, old iMessages were downloaded.
The odd thing is, even the old iMessages that he deleted before were also there included in the downloaded old iMessages. This means, it is fine to delete the messages from your phone if you think you are beginning to lose space. All your iMessages are maintained in the server but for how long, maybe it’s up to Apple.
