Shortcuts have disappeared from desktop after virus attack type Sirefef/Conedex (now eliminated), folder on the desktop have not been affected by this attack. These programs are not longer present in the list of start menu programs.

1. Try restoring your system on an earlier time.
2. Check the program files if the file is still there and if not you must reinstall them again but I would recommend you to back up your files and just reformat your computer if there would be a large computer programs that would need to be installed.
3. If you remove the files including the virus that cause your shortcut icons to disappear using an antivirus try curing them using the antivirus so you can restore them and put them back to your desktop.
