Hi,

We have a Local LAN in our office with 9 computers connected over the network. Also we are sharing some printers on the network, so that some users can also access the printer through networking, as some printers are located at the 2nd floor of the building.

Every user or PC must only be connected to a shared printer maybe around 3 or 4 printers. But every time we view the installed printers at control panel, it shows all the shared printers in the network, in our office, which take some time to load.

Now we are having difficulty in choosing which printer driver were going to used, every time we are going to print some documents. I have deleted the other printer drivers installed.

My problem is that were having this activity wherein we will be reformatting all 9 computers, after I share those printers my dilemma is, will it again automatically install those printers on each PC.

Thanks.

Hi there, I am Annies.

What you can try to do in this situation is to disable automatic search for network printers so it won't automatically install the printer. Here's what you do:

  1. Go to Control Panel and click Appearance and Themes then got to Folder Options.
  2. Under View tab, click Advanced Settings,
  3. In the least clear the Automatically Search for Network Folders and Printers.
  4. Click OK.

  • You can also do this using regedit. Just run regedit and go to;
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced.
  • Right click on System and click New and then choose DWORD Value. Type NoNetCrawling, once created double click and type its value to 1 and then click OK. Restart your Computer.

If you only want to see the sets of printers that are shared to your computer, you need to turn off or disable network discovery. This will help you avoid confusion every time you need to print because you only get to see the number of printers available to you instead of showing all the networked printers.

To disable this option, click “Start”, “Control Panel” then “Network and Sharing Center”. On the next screen, select “Change advanced sharing settings” on the left pane. On the next screen, under “Network discovery” section, select “Turn off network discovery”. Click “Save changes” then restart the computer. And that’s it. Other networked printers should no longer appear and only the ones shared to your computer will appear.
