Hey Elicol!

Yes my dear it is possible to disable or change the sounds in windows XP. For this purpose just follow these steps.

1. First of all go to Control panel and open it.

2. Here find the Sound and audio devices tab (Usually it is Speaker icon).

3. When you open the sound tab, here you can find all the sounds which are currently you hear (like start up sound, shut down sound etc.).

4. Here you can see a browse button.

5. Click on it and select the tune which you want your windows play for you.

(Make sure that the selected sound is in WAV format).

6. Now after selecting WAV file, you can press the play button to confirm it.

7. Now you have to save the sound if it is the right sound you want for a particular action. Click on Save as and save your sound with the name of your choices.

8. Click on apply button after selecting your sound and you are done.

Thanks
