Hi,

During my free time I do graphic design and I like playing around with pictures. I have DirectDraw installed on Windows 7 and it has been showing an error message as displayed below. I have verified that my computer meets minimum requirements so what can I do next. I would like to solve this soon.

Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw.

I don’t think you can install DirectDraw separately with Windows because there is no available installer that will install this component as a separate program. All Microsoft Windows editions include DirectDraw because it is part of Microsoft DirectX and DirectX is installed by default together with Windows. So the moment you install Microsoft Windows on your computer you already have these components installed.

DirectDraw is used to speed up the rendering of graphics in programs. It is a deprecated API that originally is included in Microsoft DirectX API. It lets programs run in full screen or in a window like in most Microsoft Windows applications. If you have problems with DirectDraw, you may try installing the latest version of DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.

This is a web installer and not an offline installer so make sure your computer is connected to the internet while installation is in progress. Another option is to upgrade your video card’s driver. So, visit your video card’s website and then check if there is an updated driver for your model.
