Hi,

I just want to have an inquiry. I bought iMac last week and my OS software is OS Snow Leopard. My officemates keep on bugging me to update my software to OS X Lion. Just wondering what's the difference between Snow Leopard and X Lion?

And if ever I update my software, will my files and applications which are downloaded stay or will they be deleted upon updating? Hope to hear something from you. Thanks!

Hi,

The OS snow leopard is the Mac OS X version 10.6. Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X., Snow Leopard enhanced their performance with greater efficiency and the lessening on the whole memory footprint. Mac OS X was expansively rewritten for this release, in order to wholly take a lead of modern Macintosh hardware, while the Mac OS X Lion have just been released.

Anyway just now while I’m writing this, July 20, 2011, don’t know much yet about this, since this is just being released. But I suggest that you should keep your Mac OS Snow Lion first. As the software is new, I’m sure there will be more updates on that and for sure it's not yet stable, just like what happened in Windows XP and Vista.

Hello,

The Snow Leopard is the same or the code for Mac OS X 10.6, and it is the first release. While the Lion is the upgraded version, the code for Mac OS X 10.7. It is the latest version. Expected the new improvements than the first one. Even the price varies only a little. Expect the more comforts and much better than the old one. But if you don't need that so much upgrades for the system, practically the snow leopard will really do.

Hi,

Version 10.6: "Snow Leopard" VS Version 10.7: "Lion"

Version 10.6: "Snow Leopard"

  • Released on August 28, 2009

SEE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X#Version_10.6:_.22Snow_Leopard.22

Version 10.7: "Lion

  • Released on July 20, 2011

Changes made to the GUI (Graphical User Interface) include the Launch pad (similar to the home screen of IOS devices), auto-hiding scroll bars, that only appear when they are being used, and Mission Control, which unifies Expose, Spaces, Dashboard, and full-screen applications within a single interface.

Since Lion is new we can expect some issues regarding this OS, may have many downsides.

And if ever I have updated my software, will my files and applications downloaded stay or will be deleted upon updating?

If you install those new OS X versions over the top of what you already have, your files and preferences should remain. However, it's a very good idea to have at least one complete backup of your Mac's disk before you try anything like that.

Cheers

Hi..

SNOW OS X LION is faster than leopard because all system components support 64 bits while Snow leopard is more on a refinement than a major update and it only runs on Intel-based Macs. Apple switched to Intel in 2006 it also included a native support for Exchange, Microsoft's corporate mail server. Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, the goal of  Snow Leopard were improved performance, greater efficiency and the reduction of its overall memory footprint.

Thanks

OS SNOW LEAPARD IS MAC OS (VER.10.6) WHILE OS X LION IS A NEW RELEASE OF UPGRADED SNOW LEAPARD

I definitely agree with Mozak. There will be differences in some specs and it's a good idea to always have backups for your files just to make sure.

Hi,

You defintely can goa head and update your iMac to iOS X Lion. These updates are announced to make sure new things, new technologies and new features are introduce to make the use of products better. Better battery and run time and the performance is improved as well. Once you Update your iOS, you will feel the change yourself and you will be able to determine you have made the right decision just after upgrading you iOS.

Don't worry your files won't go anywhere. Right before the update the setup will do a back up which will save all the data on the system and restore it once you have upgraded the iOS to IOS X Lion. Or for your satisfaction you can go do a manual back up as well and later on restore it back. You will have all your data back as it was along with the iOS X Lion.

Thanks
