A microsoft exchange is a server developed by Microsoft which its major features is for electronic mail, calendaring and tasks that works with Microsoft outlook. The latest Server edition is the Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 which was released on October 8, 2009. 

The difference of Microsoft Exchange standard with the enterprise edition is the following.

a. You can create one storage group on a standard edition while in exchange you can create four.

b.Standard edition has a maximum of 72 gigabyte(GB) of database limit while enterprise limits up to 16 terrabytes.

c. In the standard edition, the X.400 connector is not included while in the enterprise, it is included.

d. In the enterprise it supports clustering where the standard does not supports.

In general standard edition is designed for  small to medium organizations while enterprise is designed for larger organization which require greater number of mailbox databases.
