Did I get wrong on the back up process in server 2000?

Hi! I am having problems with my server. I was using Server 2000 DC but then the hard drive failed so, I got myself a new hard drive.

I installed in it Server 2000 and copied into it all of my files from my backup. The thing is while I was able to back up everything, none of the client machines would connect to the server and I could not view My Documents. Aside from that, I have also encountered other problems.

For one, I get this error message saying “dcgetdcname call failed”.

I also could not open the group policy and the computer sends me another error message saying “Failed to find a domain controller.

There may be a policy that prevents you from selecting another domain controller.” There are also times when the Active Directory would not open; A Time Server could not be located; the server holding the PDC is down; and the NIC would not save static IP settings even if the machine IP does not change.I used to have three DC servers but I only have one now since I had troubles due to hardware failures.

This one I am using right now carries out all FMSO tasks. I hope somebody could help me.

I have too many errors in my hands. Thank you.

Hello Lara Lou,

I guess since you transferred all the documents you had on the old hard drive to the new hard drive, you will need to redo the server configuration so that you can be able to view the documents on the new hard drive that you installed. I guess things like the path to where the documents are stored and others were altered when you transferred the documents and therefore you will need to reconfigure that.

Also check if the netlog service is running and the event viewer because if they are not then you may not be able to access the documents on the new drive. Check also the roles you have assigned the holder, and try running the full dcdiag test and see if that will help.

Hope this helps.
