I have tried to fix the broken DHCP client in the DNS server by manually loading resolv.conf file. However the file is automatically replaced every lease renewal. How can I resolve the issue? Please help.

If DHCP is not working, you can as well use static IP addresses. You can as well try the following resolution:

  • On your computer you will need to open Windows Explorer;
  • And then you will need to navigate to the %Windir%System32Drivers folder.
  • You will need to make sure that the following files are present in that folder: afd.sys, tcpip.sys and netbt.sys

In case there is one or more of the above driver files missing, then you will need to extract them from the Windows XP CD-ROM, or you can also get them from the ServicePackFilesi386 folder and extract them from there. Just check which one of them is the latest version and extract from there.
