Hello there.  I have a Dell XPS 17 that has an Intel Core Duo processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, 1 GB Video Card and Windows 7 OS.  My webcam suddenly just shows a black screen so I updated my Dell Webcam Central driver.  My webcam still just shows a black screen.  Please help.

Hi Dorothy!

Make sure that you have the correct driver for your webcam. There are instances wherein a simple driver update won't fix the issue. You can look for the correct driver at the Dell Support Website. You need to provide your Service Tag (found at the bottom of the portable). Once you have provided the tag, go to Drivers and Downloads Section and select your Operating System. Under categories, look for the name of your webcam then download the file. You can also try several versions of the driver. After downloading the driver, uninstall the existing one from the Device Manager then install the new driver. If several versions will fail, it might be a hardware issue. You can try to contact Dell Hardware Department to check for hardware replacements or other alternatives. Here is how to contact Dell Support.
