I am using Dell Inspiron 1545 which is having built- in camera. I am not able to find it with MSN. So I have attempted to install the driver from the Dell support website, but it gives me an error message ‘Error occurred with the setup of driver’ after completing 90 percent. I have searched for a solution in the website and found nothing. After re-installing the Windows, I have installed the driver and it worked fine. But again the problem repeats after few days. The device manager is not showing the camera and it displays three unknown devices with USB bus controllers. I have re-installed the same, but there was no change in the result. I am not able to find the problem. Please help me. I will be thankful for help and support.

This is a very common problem in dell inspiron 1545 series. But there are few solutions that I am going to tell you in order to help you out with this.

  • First try to perform a clean boot to see if any of the third party software's are conflicting with the drivers when you install the windows and then other software's.
  • Click start and type msconfig in the start menu search box and press enter.
  • In the General tab click on the Selective startup option.
  • Under this, click to clear the Load startup items check box. Then click the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then disable all. What it did is it hide all the necessary Microsoft services and disabled all other which you installed later.
  • Click ok, Restart, check if the problem fixed.
  • If it is fixed then do the steps mentioned here to figure out the exact problem.
  • Second solution is to download the drivers from here.
  • There is another tweak to solve this issue. Just plug any USB cable in the laptop and then start up the Webcam.

Since you have a Dell laptop, the best way to fix the problem is to install all necessary drivers for your computer from the Dell website. That problem probably happens because not all drivers are installed and the driver for the webcam is not the one designed for the device. Normally, when you have a laptop, the manufacturer will provide multiple drivers for every device included in your machine.

Like for example the touchpad and the webcam, if your laptop came with a CD, you will notice that the disc contains more than one driver for the touchpad and the webcam. This is because the machine includes devices from varying manufacturers. This means the touchpad and webcam from one Dell computer may not be the same touchpad and webcam with another Dell computer.

To fix the problem, go to Support for Inspiron 1545. Here, select your correct operating system then download all available drivers for your laptop. For the webcam, check if there are more than one driver available. If multiple drivers are provided for the webcam, try installing the first one then see if it is compatible.

If the camera doesn’t seem to work properly, uninstall the driver and install the other webcam driver.
