Since I like to keep my pc clean. I regularly uninstall idle apps. At the same time, I try to keep my hard disk as healthy as possible. I heard that defragmenting from time to time is highly recommend for every PC. Can anyone tell me how to defragment? Also I heard that defragmenting can be done by third party apps as well. How can I fix bad sectors if detected on my hard drive?

Hello,

You can utilize a help tool on your PC to find the defragmenting software bundled into your preinstalled OS. You can also use a “wizard” to guide you through the process of using the software. You can also schedule regular and automated defragmenting. If you would prefer something that is possibly much more robust, you can experiment with various “cleaning” applications that perform this function in various ways and at possibly deeper levels. Use a search engine to find such applications.

If you want to defragment your hard drive, you can easily do it right within Windows with the Windows Disk Defragmenter. It is a built-in utility in Microsoft Windows for defragmenting a hard drive. To use this, click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Accessories”, “System Tools”, then “Disk Defragmenter”. In Disk Defragmenter, select the drive you wish to defrag then click “Defragment disk”.

Wait until the defragmentation process is complete. You can also click “Analyze disk” to check the defragmentation level of the drive. This helps you check if the selected drive requires defragmentation or not. When the defragmentation process is complete, click “Close”. Part of optimizing your system is to clean it from unwanted files like temporary files and garbage. Download the free version of CCleaner and install it.

Once installed, start CCleaner then clean your system. Another program you can use is PC Tools Performance Toolkit. Once installed, click on the “1-Click Optimization” button to perform everything like cleaning the garbage and temporary files, clearing the browsing history, cleaning and compacting the Windows registry, and defragmenting the hard drive.
