I used Debian Squeeze XFCE and I am having issues updating the Debian Mirror. The error that I am receiving is: “Could not download all repository indexes.” This appears after accessing the sources and selecting a different mirror. I attached a copy of the complete error message that I am receiving. I hope that someone can send me some helpful tips and information on solving this. Thank you.

Could not download all repository indexes

Could not download all repository Indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Failed to fetch ftp://debian.ics.mit.edu/debian/dists/squeeze/updates/main/sources.gz Unable to fetch file, server said 'Faild to open file.'

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones sued instead.

Debian Error: Could Not Download All Repository Indexes

The repository indexes that are missing may not be available from the mirror that you are updating the operating system for the time being, and therefore you should wait for some time and then try updating the operating system again and see if it will update successfully.

You can also make sure that the following has been checked:

  • That the internet connection speed is fast enough. Because a problem in the internet connection can be the possible cause of the problem.
  • That the site you are downloading the upgrades from are sites that has Linux debian updates, because if you are updating from a wrong site then that is the possible cause of the problem.
