Hello Tech experts,

When I try to open a database file from the DVD I am getting this File open error. The error makes me scary; it says it might lead to an ArchiCAD system error. What is mean by that? Is it going to crash the laptop? The data is important to me. How will I recover it now? Please help. Thanks.

The file you are trying to open is damaged!

Do you want ArchiCAD to try recovering it?

Important: The recovery can be slow and might lead to an ArchiCAD system error.

File damage or data corruption can happen when opening ArchiCAD files. When you receive an error such as “The file you are trying to open is damaged! Do you want ArchiCAD to try recovery it”, one of the possible reasons is that the file is physically damaged. Since you said that you tried opening the file from a DVD, then it is possible that the location where the file is stored on the disc is damaged maybe due to scratches.

Normally, when this error is thrown, the file can no longer be fixed and the success of the recovery all depends on how many percent of the file is still usable. In several cases after recovering the file, the file is loadable but there are parts and sections that are not available or deleted.

And also in some cases after seeing that error, the next error that may appear is an information regarding the deleted items. At this point, the best thing to do is to recover the file as much as possible. Sometimes you can see no data loss after the recovery but there are also times that the file is no longer usable.

Most common reasons of getting this error when accessing the file from a DVD is storing the file on the DVD disc for a very long time that the file already get damaged.
