Could not install Google Chrome Error 0x8004071c

I am running Windows 7. Whenever I tried installing Google Chrome and Google Earth, I am receiving this error:

"Google update installation failed with error 0x8004071c"

The installation would start then stop while installing. I have Google Chrome running on my system before, but because of incorrect settings on my computer, I have to reinstall Google Chrome and Google Earth.

This occurred on any version of Google Chrome.

Can someone help me?

This can be fixed if you are running Windows 7. The error means that  your computer is running on Windows Audit Mode. There is a conflict with the installation. So, you need to modify your registry.  To completely install and uninstall Google Chrome or any other Google product, please follow the steps below:

1. On the Start menu, click Run
2. Type regedit on the box, then hit OK
3. Find and right-click on: HKEY/_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetupState
4. Select Modify
5. Delete the Value
6. Then click OK

Editing or modifying you registry may be too confusing and an advanced process.  So if you don’t feel comfortable on editing, contact your computer Administrator.

I was a bit uneasy thinking that I might fix the registry incorrectly. Your instructions are very clear.

It worked fine for me.

Thank you very much!
