Corel Draw’s Visual Basic Application Error

I have been using CorelDraw suites version 12, and have just bought a license for CorelDraw X5 Student and Home and installed it successfully.

However, when using Windows 7 own default program changing app I try to make PhotoPaint as my default program for jpg, BMP, gif etc. I get a error panel saying:

Unable to initialize Visual Basic for Applications
VBA may not be installed.
Try reinstalling it using the Corel Installer and selecting a Custom Setup.
  •  I have tried this using Modify and then Repair but still i'm getting the same error.  I can successfully associate CorelDraw (as opposed to Photopaint) program but that's not what I want.
  • I have tried doing the same through Photopaint OptionsGlobalAssociate, but still I'm getting same result.  I have never had this kind of problem with any of my my various earlier CorelDraw packages. Why with this one? Any ideas please?or suggestions? Thanks!

Corel Draw’s Visual Basic Application Error

This error is due to the fact the application cannot find the VBA running in your machine. As per Corel website, VBA is included in the software suite of your version.

If you disabled it during installation using the custom installation menu, it may cause the problem.

You can try reinstalling the Suite enabling it.

If you properly installed it including VBA, it can also be caused by delayed start of the VBA.

You can go to Tools > Options > VBA on PhotoPaint and disable the check box titled delay.

This will enable VBA to start up at application start up and should solve the problem.

There is no incompatibility problem here. Because CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 supports Windows 7. If you have already tried modifying and repairing it and it’s still the same, maybe there is something wrong with the options selected during its installation. The error is about Visual Basic for Application, it can’t initialize. And the application suspects that Visual Basic for Application is not installed. It is also possible that there are other errors in your hard drive that is preventing this application from working properly. Check your drive for errors. If you have a disk utility application installed, run it to check your disk drive for file structure errors. Or just run Windows disk check.

  1. Right click on drive C and then select Properties.
  2. Click Tools tab.
  3. Click Check Now.
  4. Check Automatically fix file system errors and then click Start.

After the disk check run the application again. If the same error appears, uninstall it and then install it back selecting custom setup. This time, be sure that Visual Basic for Application is selected in the components to be installed.

Here are the system requirements for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5:

  • Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit, Windows Vista, Windows 7
  • Pentium 4, AMD Athlon 64 or AMD Opteron or higher processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 750 MB free hard disk space, 1 GB free disk space for typical installation and 6 GB free drive space for installing extra content
  • Mouse or tablet
  • 1024 x 768 screen resolution, 768 x 1024 on Tablet PC
  • DVD drive
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher
