I have these 2 devices that I wish to use for my internet connection. The device on the left is my USB plug in device and the other is my DLINK router.

I want my home to be WIFI by the use of these equipment. Is there any possible chance that  I can use the DLINK router via Ethernet to get an internet connection from my USB device?

If so, what are the steps?

Hello,

The answer is YES you can get internet via your USB dongle to DLINK router. I did this in my forth year project to give internet connection to four laptops which are networked together.

Here the steps you need to setup the connection.

(I assume you are using Windows 7 and internet connection is there)

1.  Click the network button in the bottom right side of your screen. (The looks like a computer when internet is connected which located behind date and time and your sound changing button)  Click the “Open Network and sharing center”

2. Click the “Local Area Connection” in the right side of the window.

3. Then Click the Properties in left bottom of the new window.

4. Go to the ‘Sharing’ tab and check that “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s to internet connection”

Hi I tried it but on my phone and laptop, it still says that my SSID is disabled.

How can I fix this?

Besides following the above post, be sure that all of the computers that will be using and accessing the router will only be using the same workgroup.

You can set the computers’ workgroup by following these steps:

  1. Right-click My Computer then select Properties.
  2. Click on Computer Name tab.
  3. In “To rename this computer or join a domain, click Change”, click the Change button at the end.
  4. Under Workgroup, type the new workgroup name then hit OK. Do this on all computers that will be using the router using the same workgroup name.

Besides having your USB modem on your computer, your machine should also have a network card installed on it that is also connected to the router using UTP cable.
