First of all you need an electric guitar, or an electric acoustic guitar. These guitars have built-in microphones so you can set them up quite easily if you have a sound card on your computer. If you have only an acoustic guitar you will need to buy a small but very good microphone, and put it in the case of the guitar, and them connect the cable to you sound card. Then you will need recording software if you like to record stuff, and I can recommend you Adobe Audition, not cheap, but really good.

Hello Ariel,

To connect your guitar to your computer, you first have to ensure your guitar is electric. An electric guitar has cables for connecting the guitar to an amplifier. This is because, the electric guitar has an inbuilt microphone and when played, the sound is carried from the guitar via the microphone to an amplifier. This cable can also be used as an input cable to the computer microphone jack pin. The other thing you need to have is an audio mixer installed in your computer to record the guitar sounds while playing. You can use software such as adobe audition. If you don't have a cable for your guitar, you can use a plug for the computer microphone.

Thank you.
