Since cloud computing is the trend now, does that mean that all desktop applications will soon be rendered obsolete in favor of browser embedded applications?

Hi,

I think it will happen in the future. All computer application software will become online application program. It is not so difficult. All you need to do is to establish a domain installed all application programs and permit access those installation programs for all workstation. Then all users can access those installation programs on online. It will happen in the future. All desktop applications will soon be rendered obsolete in favor of browser embedded applications.

Already many program became online available for now such as online converter, on line virus scan, online audio/video player, online word document, excel book etc. very soon all will be included in this system. It just a matter of time.

I don’t think that will happen besides the advancing popularity of cloud service. Software companies rely on users to like their products and buy it for either personal or professional use and the results are the sales where the companies rely on. No company will last if there is not a single product that will be produced commercially.

Free software is aimed only at attracting customers and not meant for infinity. And the best way applications are offered is through desktop applications instead of offering it through cloud service. Cloud computing is popular only to businesses and not for normal users. Accessing software through cloud computing will obviously require you to use internet which is probably not available to some users.

Without internet connection there’s no way of running the program from the cloud. If you’ll be running the software directly from your computer, you won’t have to use the internet and pay for additional airtime as well as for the cloud service. It’s more convenient to run the applications straight from the desktop rather than getting it from the cloud. Cloud computing will work only for businesses since they can afford all the expenses but not for normal users.
