Hello! My PC, HP Pavilion DV9000, is not working. It’s practically dead actually. The computer screen suddenly froze and then it went blank after I double-clicked it. I have already restarted the computer but nothing happened. Can you please tell me what would be the problem and is there anything I can do to fix it? Thank you.

Hello Infant,

As in you double clicked in a blank computer screen and it just went off? It sounds a bit strange. What activities were you performing on the computer before that happened? You could have been running some application that suddenly malfunctioned and led to the computer screen to go black. Or maybe you could have tried to execute an application that was infected by a virus which crashed your system. Or maybe you tampered with the registry settings.

It could have been easier if you could have at least said what you were doing before that problem occurred so that we might figure out the possible cause. Otherwise try booting the computer in safe mode and see if it works.

When you say it's practically non-functional, do you mean to say it doesn't even turn on or do you mean to say the screen is just blank without anything in it? If you computer still turns on meaning there are lights that turn on when you press the power button, you may have a bad LCD screen or a defective video card. Try connecting an external monitor to your system and see if it displays anything. If it does, you need your LCD replaced, if not, then you need to have your video card replaced (motherboard or discrete video card). If the computer doesn't turn on at all meaning no lights are on, you may need to have your battery checked and replaced or the ac adapter/charger replaced or the motherboard replaced.
