Hi there,

I have this weird error in Combo Fix. It seems like is not supporting Windows 8 (x32) even the error says that it is OK with Windows 8. Can anyone help me please with this error ? What is wrong with my Windows 8 ?

Thank you experts !

ComboFix

This operating system is not supported:

ComboFix only runs on:

*Windows XP (32BIT)

* Windows Vista (32/64 bit)

* Windows 7 (32/64 bit)

* Windows 8 (32/64 bit)

Windows 2000 is no longer supported.

Hello,

Till date there is no such official claim from the sUBs, developers of ComboFix’s of being its compatible with Windows 8.1(x32) or MACs. But only,

  • Windows XP (x32)
  • Windows Vista (x32,x64)
  • Windows 7 (x32,x64)

It was mere luck that some people tried it well in that OS. I will strongly recommend you NOT to try this as this could cause some really fatal to your system. Now there is release of latest version, i.e.  ComboFix 14-08-28.1. One thing you need to remember, always save a copy of ComboFix.exe to your machine, before installing, rather than directly fetching from any online host.

That is very odd. I’ve visited the Combofix official home page and it is clearly indicated there that the program will not run on Windows 8 either on normal mode or safe mode but the error message generated by the program on your Windows 8 clearly indicates that it supports Windows 8 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

They have very different information on their website and from the application itself. Since you are running it under Safe Mode, try running Combofix in normal mode and see the difference. Since Combofix will not run while other antivirus program is running, try to disable your antivirus first before starting Combofix.

If the same problem appears then it is possible that the information embedded in the program is incorrect and the one from their website is the right one. As what was indicated in their website, Combofix supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 both 32-bit and 64-bit. It is not compatible with Microsoft Windows 8 either on normal mode or safe mode.

If you wish to download the latest version, visit Combofix Free Download. On the other hand, if you want to use a program that can assist your antivirus in protecting your computer, you can use Sophos Virus Removal Tool. You can use it without uninstalling or disabling your existing antivirus because it works alongside any antivirus programs.

The only thing you need to remember about Sophos if you plan to use it for a long time is that you need to replace it every 2 months because it will automatically disable itself after that period. You need to uninstall it then download the latest version and then just update Sophos after it is installed.
