I see everywhere to store all my family photos and data in a cloud like Amazon or Google. What happens in ten years if the place I was using for a cloud storage closed their doors. What protection would I have not to lose everything I had there? Or would it just all be gone?

There is no guarantee that the cloud storage will last forever. However, as a responsible corporation, they might notify their users before they terminate the cloud storage services. For example, when NAVER closed the NDrive service, they have notified all users several months in advance, and also allow users to download their data for several months after the service closed. However, no guarantee for other cloud service provider. Therefore, as users, always keep a copy for your own is the safest way to protect your data.
