Hi Zishami8's,

First your need to know that the connection speed is dependant upon multiple aspects not just solely on bandwidth itself. Although the link speed is concerned in order to have better speeds. But you have to make sure a couple of things to better compare your results with others. First you need to make sure what your actual bandwidth is? By going to the following link, it will automatically connect to your computer and will give the results in several seconds. Usually 2mbps connection must have downloading transfer rate between 180kbps-250kbps. And uploading transfer rate should be between 30-50 kbps.

http://www.speedtest.net/

Click on “begin test” and it will report you the actual bandwidth allocated to you.

  • As you are having a broadband connection which requires an adsl modem to connect to the server.
  • It depends on several aspects to allocate better speeds. Like your computer’s internal cache memory/RAM.
  • You need to make sure your link has not physically distorted or altered. This may disrupt the speed.
  • You need to make sure that your link does not have any other connectivity issues. Usually disconnection, line faults, Server side problem may cause your link speed to disturb some times.

Recommendations:

If you are only concerned with the browsing speed and not the downloading speed then you can surely optimized your web browser to tweak its operations to have better utilization of network bandwidth.

There are numbers of speedtest available on the Internet. This check the Internet speed in download, upload and the ping test in milliseconds.

The best speedtest websites are the following;

speedtest.net
speakeasy.net
dslreports.com
trendlists.com
numion.com
internetfrog.com
speedguide.net
2wire.com
bredbandskollen.se
netindex.com

What this do is to calculate the download speed both for upload and download, it also include the ping test and it'll display into milliseconds.

To get a better download speed varies on the date and time. If you use your Internet during peak hours and day, chances are you'll get lower speed than what you expected.

The acceptable speedtest results is not lower than 80% of the actual speed you have subscribed. If you are at 2mbps download, you should be able to get at least 1.8mbps down and or 1800kbps.

If the speed is OK and you still encounter continues dropping of website, lagging or still slow -you'll need to clear our your browsing history.

Go to Tools, Internet Options
Click on the Delete button
Check all the boxes to clear all browsing history, cookies, files and other forms data

This will improved your browsing but not the actual speedtest results.

Hi Zisham,

To check the speed of your broadband, you can use a program called 'Broadband speed checker'.

While you are connected to internet using your broadband, open the following page:

http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/

In the page that will open, you will see two diagrams kind-of watches. In between them, you will see 'Start speed test'. Click on it and the speed test will start immediately.

When running the speed test, ensure that only the page above is opened and no other to get accurate results.

Hope this helps.
