It all depends on the features you are searching for. Do you have the size of the your case? If you still don't have and it doesn't matter to you. Then you have to determine first the features that will suit your demands. Other says mATX mobo is the cheapest that supports USB 3.0.
However, the expansion slots of this is limited. It is only the video card that was installed in a PC and since all MOBO have already audio card no need to add card audio for additional sounds enhancement.
Just remember that high end doesn't always performed well. There's also one way to determine if the motherboard performs well than any other motherboard if you check and compares all different MOBOS using the same CPU.

There are many types of motherboard you have expressed to a little bit lower price that you are able to purchase.

You can classify graphics designer into two type one type of designer works with still scene like image or photo.
Other works with movie or animation or involve with rendering.
This two type of people needs two different type of computer. The graphics designer who works with image or any photo in a soft like Photoshop or illustrator need just common type of computer with common speed like you can buy Intel core 2 duo processor with compatible motherboard with video memory like 256 MB to 512 MB and ram like 1GB to 2GB.
On the other hand if you work with rendering or animation making like in 3D Studio Max you need Intel core i7 processor video memories like 1 GB or 2 GB and RAM like 4 GB or more.
