Can it lead to disclosure of sensitive information or even password.

Yes, it may lead to disclosure of important and private information like your password.  When URLs are considered safe, usually Safari directly goes to that URL without any warning. But in such cases of malicious sites, it sometimes warns you by showing it as an HTML format. If you think your device is inflicted you can email apple here: product-security@apple.com.
