Hello there upon researching about your problem I found out that the reason  for this problem is there is something changed in your computer. And most of the time the cases occurs when upgrading your operating system. Here are the reasons.

1.       The disc might not be compatible with your drive

2.       There might be a problem with how windows media center , media player are set up.

3.       You might need driver for your cd or DVD drive

There might be a missing driver after you installed Windows 8. Go to your device manager and check if there is a missing driver that you need to install to be able to use the CD/DVD ROM again. Or if you have the driver with you, please install it. Or try to switch your SATA ports and insert any disk on your CD/DVD drive and see if it works.
