Can’t scan with ClamXav on my Mac

I recently downloaded and installed ClamXav at my macbook.

The problem is that I can't use it at all. Everytime I try to manually scan a folder or file, I get the following error message

Sorry, scanning the entire startup disk causes problems and is not allowed.

You can, however, select multiple items by holding down the command key while clicking files/folders

Oops!

This is really strange, because I am not trying to scan the entire disk, but only a folder.

I tried to uninstall and install again, but the problem persists.

Can’t scan with ClamXav on my Mac

Hi Iamwalrus,

Although I do not use clamxav myself, I have experienced the same problem while using bitdefender antivirus on my laptop. It was working perfectly fine but then refused to scan completely, I went to the task manager in the processes and stopped it then later restarted but still nothing happened. So I uninstalled it completely, ran disk cleaner utility and ccleaner to completely remove any files that were related to it and installed it again. It worked after doing that.

So I would advise that you try the same if you tried other options and they haven’t worked for you.

Hope this helps.
