My pen drive won’t open on my PC.  It just prompts the “Open with” menu to choose a program from the list because according to the PC the file is unknown.

Hello Babylyn,

Your pen drive acts like that possible because it has been infected by a virus which has disabled the auto play function. But you can still access the contents on your pen drive.

Just ignore that window that has the open with function, close it and then go to my computer. Look for the pen drive among the list of drives, and then right click on it and then choose the explore option. You will be able to see the contents of the pen drive successfully.

But after that you have to do a thorough scan on your pen drive using the strongest antivirus to remove the virus on it.

Your pen drive may have a file in it designed to auto run wherein when you plug the pen drive into your computer the computer will access the contents of the pen drive and consequently run the file. If your computer does not recognize the extension, most likely because the compute doesn't have the software necessary to open such file extensions, then it will prompt you to choose a program to open the file. Try checking the file extension for the files that you have in your pen drive. If these are files that are familiar to you and if the computer doesn't seem to recognize them, try and run a virus scan on the pen drive. The files may be infected hence the errors.
