Hi Henry!

Your drive may have some bad sectors, to check whether your drive has bad sectors or not, using the Hirens boot CD (you can download newest hirens boot from https://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd and burn it to CD, ask your friend to download and burn it for you in case that you can log in Windows)

Booting from Hirens boot cd, using “HDD Scan” to scan your drive, it may take hours to finish.
After finishing the hard drive scan, restart the computer and boot to Windows, It doesn’t work, consider re-installing Windows XP again.

Best regards,

Hello.

It seems that your hard drive has not been reformatted and I suppose you did not choose the format option when re installing windows. Slow startup or dead startup is caused by services affected by the hard disk bad sectors. To get this done, reboot your machine then press F8 Key after the BIOS information is shown. A menu will appear then select 'Safemode'.

Once prompted whether windows should start in a safemode environment, click YES then you will be directed to the windows safemode environment just like the normal windows environment but with limited service running. Now, click start, click run, type cmd then a black command prompt screen should appear.

Now, on the command prompt screen type: chkdsk /r then wait until the progress reaches 100% then reboot your machine and let windows start normally. Slow Start up solved.

Hi,

It is a problem which can be raised by both h/w and S/w. So better to format and install the XP once again.

Thanks,

Anilkumar.
