Can’t install Windows XP on my Dell Optiplex 330 Machine

My PC was so slow and therefore, I wanted to format it and reinstall Windows XP. I booted the PC from its DVD rom and while trying to copy files, it stops and does not go further.

I tried different xp cds and distinct CD drives, but the result is the same. Again, I connected the hard disk to another PC and tried to install XP, then everything went well. I could successfully install XP.

When I reconnected the hard disk to original PC, when loading XP, it gives the blue screen. Kindly tell me a solution.

Please help.

Thanks

Hi there.

You cannot install Windows XP on one computer, transfer the hard disk to another computer and expect Windows to work correctly on that second computer.  When you set up Windows on a certain computer, various configurations are performed by Windows to ensure that the OS will work correctly for the particular set of hardware that are installed at the time of installation.  As you have experienced, Windows crashed because its current configuration was for a different computer.  You got the Blue Screen because the installation of Windows XP was done from a different machine with different hardware specifications.

I suggest you focus on getting the DVD to run on your target machine (the machine where you want to install Windows XP on).  Try replacing the DVD drive with a known working DVD drive or try to get Windows XP installer working on a USB flash disk.

Hope this helps!

Hello Dear,

Thanks that you have shared your problem with us.

Dear it is not your CD or Hard Disk problem.

Just clean up your motherboard for dust. Take an air blower and clean your pc first.

Then replace your cables of hard disk and CD ROM and then try again.

It will skip your problem.

Thanks
