Hi,

I created a user account and I wanted to change the name after I created it. When I tried to rename the folder, it shows that I can’t do this because I don’t have authorization. How can I change the folder name?

Please help. Thanks.

Dear Rein Thomas,

If I understood your question well, you need to change the user account name and all the files and folders with that name, right? Well, you forgot to inform us what is your Windows version too, so I'll assume you are using Windows 7. Please follow the below steps:

  • Using an administrator account, go to "Control Panel -> User Accounts" and create a new "Standard" user account named with the new name you would like to change to it and create another Administrator account.
  • Log into the new Standard user name in order to get the profile files and folders created and then log into the new administrator account.
  • Go to "Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> User Profiles -> Settings".
  • Now copy the old user account to the new created one by using "Browse" button.
  • Log into the new correctly created username and make sure all your stuff is there.
  • Now you can delete the first account using the new administrator account from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

Hope this may help you.

Best of luck.
