Cannot open Excel 2003 attachments

I cannot open Excel 2003 attachments. But if I save it first, I can open it. This only happens with Excel files. What’s wrong?

Are those attachments that you have received on your email address or what kind of attachments are you referring to? The reason why the attachments are being opened only after you have saved them is because they might have been saved in another different file format as opposed to the one you are using on your computer.

For instance, the sender might have been using the Excel 2003 program but on your computer you are using MS Excel 2010. So when you save the attachments, they are converted into a compatible format that can be opened in the MS Excel 2010 that you are using on your computer.

Hi

The reason behind your problem is that the file you used to save from the email attachment or any other attachment, your installed office cannot recognize it as a word file. But when you save the file, then the program does not link it to the web, just within the computer, so it can recognize the file format and open it.

To fix the problem you should uninstall the current office package. Then restart the computer and again install the Office Package which may be 2007 or 2010. I do suggest you to use MS Office 2010 for avoiding compatibility problem. Now whenever you open files from email attachments, it will open.
