Cannot hear when using Google Hangout

Hello, I use Google Hangout and I am having issues with the sound. Whenever I watch You Tube or any other thing with sound, it is totally fine.  However, when I use Google Hangout, the other person cuts in and out and it is to the point I can't use it. Any troubleshooting tips I can use? Thanks.

  • First of all, verify the speakers are properly connected, turned on and the mute mode is not activated (check with the key board as well). 
  • Perform a system reboot 
  • Check whether the test sound is heard, under Hangout Settings (gear icon)
  • If yes, the issue can be with the other party you are contacting. So make them adjust the microphone settings, etc.
  • If no, try reinstalling a latest and compatible version and install if there are any additional plugins available.
  • Further more, try refreshing the browser window in the meantime.
