Cannot be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser

To solve one issue with office application, I want to consult a PDF manual that I have downloaded from the net.

When I open the PDF using a browser, an error message was there:

Adobe PDF Document

The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.

Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 are required. Please exit and try again.

So I downloaded the latest acrobat reader and opened the PDF file. But the same message displayed again.

Can anybody help me fixing this?

You can try the following solutions:

1. If you are using the IE browser of windows system, you can try to use another browser, such as opera, Firefox, chrome, etc. If the error can't be solved, please try 2 and 3.

2. You can re-install the adobe PDF and IE browser.

3. Please check the add-ins of your IE browser  to see whether the PDF process has been loaded. If not loaded, please reload it.

For this error message, several things are needed to be checked. Since you already have latest acrobat reader, try following:

• Open Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
• Go to Edit
• Click Preferences and Select Internet on the left side.
• Click to make the tick mark next to Display PDF in Browser box disappear
• click Ok.
• Go to Edit > Preferences > Internet
• Check back in Display PDF in Browser box and click Ok.

Another way:

• Close all open browsers (Internet Explorer or Firefox).
• Open Adobe Reader
• Go to Help > Repair Adobe Reader Installation.
• Once complete, repeat the first process.

Paulartney,

It would be nice to know what browser your using so I could further assist you. Follow the options below for the following browser. As I mention below if problem still continues, the actual PDF document may be corrupted. Try to view that PDF document in a 3RD part PDF viewer to see if an error still occurs.

Firefox :

1) Make sure your Firefox application is updated to most current release.

2) Also check in your Firefox config (type "about:plugins" in navigation bar) that Adobe Reader is implanted.

3) If all the prechecks above are in good standing, then check your Application settings in Firefox's preferences to confirm that the right Adobe Reader is selected.

Internet Explore 7 :

1) Same as above.

2) Read the instructions @ https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-in-browser.html

3) Also make sure your computer is up to date.

Internet Explore 8+ :

1) It should be installed by default.

2) Try opening other PDF documents from other sites.

Chrome :

1) Same as above.

2) Check Chrome's extension and confirm that there's a Adobe / PDF document viewer enabled.

Else, if problem continues the best option is to assume that PDF program / file is either corrupt. To reinstall a clean version of Adobe Reader make sure you use a third party application that would remove the program's cache for avoidance of further problems.

Download CCleaner :

Step 1. Install, then run "Scan" and then "Registry" (~5 minutes depending on computer's hardware).

Step 2. Reboot.

Thanks,

Samuel Patterson
