Can we use excel for asset management?
Yes your friend told you right. Excel was designed for every kind of management work, you can keep any kind of document or any kind of calculation in here and you can calculate everything using this too. After release of Microsoft office 2007 the whole thing become far more suitable for any companies to keep their data in excel and it becomes easier to manipulate it using codes. You can use the functions to get result using different data, at the same time you can use that for documentation.
