I was wondering, Â "Can Macs get viruses?" Can someone answer?
Can Macs get viruses or not?
Yes, it is very possible for an IMAC to be able to get a virus. The likelihood of getting the virus is very low if you compare it to other systems using Windows. Research shows that most people who have IMACS do not run an Antivirus. This is because of the following:
- The Windows operating system is used by many people making it become a better target for malicious software.Â
- The programmers who write the virus programs are very familiar with the Windows platform compared to IMAC.
- The scripts and other tools that are used to create viruses are well designed for the Windows operating system.

Ever since people started using computers, Windows is known to be the most virus-prone of all the operating systems available. Vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows Explorer web browser and the Windows system itself exposes this platform to a wide range of threats from viruses and worms to spyware.
That’s the reason why other users decided to use other operating systems instead of the usual Microsoft Windows hoping to have a system that is free from being infected.
However, Linux has also been infected, and Apple's Mac OS X is the latest victim of the infamous malicious code. SophosLabs announced on February 16, 2006 that they were able to detect the very first virus written for the Mac OS X operating system. OSXLeap-A, often referred to as OSX/Oompa-A, is an infection that spreads via the Macintosh iChat instant messaging system.
