Can a pc keyboard got hacked with a virus? I can not type anything with my keyboard. When I type in a L it comes up on the screen with a b6 and then freezes up. Is this a virus that has attacked my keyboard? Do I need to replace my keyboard or fix something on my computer?

Hi, Donald G Gibbons No keyboards are safe hardware only with memory is potential for viruses. Maybe it's broken. The best way to deal with this is take your keyboard and test take it to another unit and check if it being recognizes but once the problem still persists. Then you have to change your keyboard. But if it's OK then there's something wrong with your port or operating system.

Note: open you keyboard and check for dirt or dust. That covers some of its part just to be sure.

No, a keyboard can’t be infected or hacked by a virus. If you can’t use the keyboard properly, try transferring the cable to another port if it is a USB keyboard. If you are using a PS/2 keyboard, shut down your computer then unplug the keyboard from the PS/2 port then plug it back in. Start the computer again then see if it works.

If this doesn’t work, try connecting the keyboard to another computer to see if it is working there. If the problem is the same, buy a new keyboard. If you are using a PS/2 keyboard and it is working on the other computer, buy and replace it with a USB keyboard.
