I was just wondering I have to swipe an access card to be able to enter the turnstile in my office. Sometimes I forget my card and is it possible for me to use the NFC on mobile to substitute the card. Can I get the same effect by using an app?

I guess not because the access card you swipe in your office contains your employee data and access restrictions. You can only use the NFC or the near field communication feature on your Smartphone on NFC-supported devices or establishments. In my previous job, I also use a swipe card but the difference is that I used it to authenticate and access the computer.

And looking at the magnetic card reader, the device where you swipe your card, I don’t think it supports NFC unless the one used in your office supports mobile NFC then that’s possible. Old versions of the magnetic card reader for swipe cards don’t support NFC. If the swipe device you used in your office is a magnetic card reader and mobile NFC combo, meaning your swipe device supports NFC then you can use your phone’s NFC.

But to be able to use your phone’s NFC to enter your office in replacement for the swipe card, you need to ask someone in your office, probably the network administrator or the supervisor, to help you configure your phone’s NFC so it will contain your employee access restrictions or permissions and other company data.
