Hi everyone,

I have got a trial with SBS2011, however,  to keep initial CAPEX to the lowest possible mark I am going to re-use a W2k3 server license with the twenty Terminal server CALS it is at all possible

If needed I know I can install extra servers into an SBS2011 domain.  I need to know if it’s possible to install W2K3 server onto this domain or are extra servers needed as W2K8 R2?  If this is the case can I recycle my ´03 Terminal server CALS?

In an ideal world I would only need the T to be on W2K3 and really don´t want to have to purchase W2K8 license as well as W2k8 TS CALS.

Cheers in advance.

No I do not think it is possible to reuse a W2k3 server license with the twenty Terminal server CALson a different version. For example if you are trying to use the TS CALs of a 2003 edition onto a 2011 one, you are not allowed such practices. For the same edition you might. But for an appropriate answer it is a necessity in this case to get in touch of M$ LICENSING DIVISION in your country. That will be a safe proposition too. Since M$ LICENSING DIVISION has its different rules in different countries and they keep changing always.

GENESIS32 works with Microsoft Terminal server to provide solutions to Thin Client deployment process across your intranet.

Although it is possible to move Terminal Server CALS from one license server to another in Windows 2003.
 (1) To move the CALS you must deactivate the old server.
Install Terminal Services Licensing on the target server.
How to activate a License Server you must follow MICROSOFT KNOWLEDGE BASE 325869.

On the new Terminal Services License Server
START>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>TERMINAL SERVER LICENSING>ON THE SNAP IN RIGHT CLICK TERMINAL SERVER LICENSE SERVER>PROPERTIES>INSTALLATION
METHOD LIST>TELEPHONE>OK.
RIGHT CLICK TERMINAL SERVER LICENSE SERVER CLICK INSTALL LICENSES.
Appears a WELCOME TO TERMINAL SERVER dialogue box appears
CLICK NEXT and in the OBTAIN CLIENT LICENSE KEY PACK you will see license server id.
To receive a CAL key Pack ID

But use in a different version from a different platform of different edition might not be supported.
In that case you might have to check with the MS Licensing Division in your respective country as each has different
Set of rules applied and they keep changing with the times.
