I want to install Active Directory on my Windows Server 2003 server. I installed a new Windows Server 2003 DC in an existing AD forest but an error occurred saying:

"The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain…….."

It seems I have done everything right but it ends up in this error. Did I miss something? I hope someone can enlighten me on this.

Thanks.

Before installing an Active Directory on a Windows Server 2003 server: Ensure the forest is prepared for Windows server 2003. This is done by extending the schema or running ADPREP. ADPREP can be found in the i386 directory installation media.Note that Windows Server 2003 R2 is different from Windows Server 2003 in that it comes with 2 installation disks and its ADPREP could be on the 2nd disk.

More about Windows Server 2003 R2 and AD PREP can be accessed at the link below: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/917385/error-message-when-you-run-the-active-directory-installation-wizard-th Make the decisions on the domain functional level to establish the existing domain can contain controllers that run 2000/2003 servers
