Can’t Stop Windows Messenger in XP

• You can view all the application running when you start your desktop by going to:
• Start > Run > type "msconfig". Then go to the Startup tab and disable all the software which you want to. Take note that you may need to reset your desktop before the changes take effect. 

To be sure, you can also disable it by doing the following:

1. Start Windows Messenger.
2. Tools > Options > Preferences tab.
3. Click the "Run this program when Windows start" check box and then click "Ok".

I have read the issue that you have on the computer and slow connection could be cause by a virus infection on the computer. I will suggest you have full scan of the computer first with your virus protection and then check if   there are viruses infecting the computer. Remove the viruses if there are any. If you’re not using a virus protection and you don’t have any software to check, you can install malware bytes on the computer and use it to scan the computer.

To install it, here are some steps:

1. open 'internet explorer'
2. on the address bar or the http bar at the top, type: malwarebytes.org and then hit ENTER
3. click on the link for downloading it and install it on the computer
4. once it’s done installing, you will see an icon of it on the desktop screen, we need to open it up and look for 'full scan' and click it
5. This will scan the computer for 30 minutes - 45 minutes depending on the volume of programs installed on the computer.
6. Once it’s done scanning the computer, you will see a screen if there are viruses on the computer but if there are no viruses you will see a message showing that it’s complete and that there’s no viruses found.
7. It will ask you to restart the computer, go ahead and restart it

If there are no viruses on the computer, try turning off the devices, the modem, router and the computer, for 30 seconds and the first device you’ll gonna turn on is the modem and then followed by the router (if you are using one) and then last is the computer. Check the speed of the connection by going to this speed test site and checking your speed.

1. open 'internet explorer'

3. Click begin test
4. The test will begin, wait for the download and the upload speed
5. Check if the provisioned speed that you have with your ISP is similar to that of the one on the speed test.
6. If it’s lower than the speed that you are paying with the ISP that means you need to contact  them and have them check your connectivity issue
7. If your speed is ok that means there might be software conflicts on the computer you may now proceed with the 3^rdstep

This next step is uninstalling the software on the computer, if you don’t know the important software that the computer use, do not uninstall any software, just look for the yahoo messenger that you’re having issues with.

1. click start
2. click control panel and then a screen will load up
3. click add/remove programs and then another screen will load up
4. Look for the messengerand click uninstall
5. It will uninstall the software on the computer until it’s finished. Follow the steps and then after it’s done, it will no longer pop up on the computer.

If you just want to disable the application here are the steps

1. Click Start
2. Click RUN
3. On the run box type in: msconfig
4. Hit Enter
5. A screen will load up, click start up
6. Look for the messenger and the other programs you uninstalled on that windows and then uncheck the boxes beside each program
7. Click Apply or OK
8. It will ask you to restart the computer for the changes to take effect, and then restart the computer.
