Hello,

Recently, I have installed Camtasia Studio but when I tried to import MP4 files an error message displayed saying “some required file are missing”. I reinstalled the application as shown below in the message but the same problem appeared. How can I fix this issue without having any issue? I want resolution. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Camtasia generally doesn’t handle mp4 files because certain files are differently encoded (the A/V in the mp4 container) which the former cannot easily recognize. Camtasia generally reads the formats for MP4 in AAC for the audio and H.264 for the video. You can work in different formats and later convert into mp4.

In most cases the culprit is a third party codec pack.  Though, you please stay updated with latest version of the software. For more trouble shooting get into this page.

There can also be the problem with 3rd party DirectShow Filters, if you have installed in PC, just uninstall the same. This process will allow you to import and use MP4 format on the Timeline. So, to uninstall follow the diagram of "Add/Remove programs" :

Even though the developers of Camtasia claim that the MP4 format works with the studio, this is only partially true.

There is only one type of MP4 file that works, and that is the one encoded in the H.264 codec.

It is possible that the file you have might not be this type and this is why it's not working. One solution would be to get the file in the right type of MP4, if you can.

Other solution may be to convert the file into another type, using an online free converter. A safe bet would be to convert it into an .AVI format, because it's standard and universally accepted.

If any of these don't work, you can go to their Tech Support and e-mail them about the problem, because it's not normal if they claim the program accepts one format and you can't use it.

Good luck!

From Camtasia Studio 8 until Camtasia 2019, the MP4 video format is supported but only AVC and H.264 codecs are supported. If your MP4 file is using the AVI codec, for example, it is not supported. You have to convert the file first with either an AVC or H.264 codec. If the error is related to filters which might be corrupted, this problem is with the installation.

In this case, just uninstall and reinstall the program. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it. Once installed, start Revo then select your Camtasia among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer.

When it is finished, exit Revo then install Camtasia back. For unsupported file formats, you can convert your file to MP4 with HandBrake. The latest version at the moment supports 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10.
