Given IBM, HP, DELL, and ACER laptops, which brand would you advice for a user who is interested in Durability (e. g lengthy warranty), Performance (e. g considerable speeds), Reliability (e. g good battery), and Cost (cheaper cost per unit)? Could there be other better options than the ones I listed? Please indicate the specific models if you've got any in mind.

It is up to you to select the best laptop of your choice, you have to take the pain of researching through all the models because there is a great variety of build type in any one brand. You cannot say which brand is better in general. I will give you guidelines on selecting a model.

You don't want a laptop for gaming therefore select a model with no video card and small screen length, RAM size between 2-4 GB, processor speed doesn't have to be above 2.0 GHz. It should have a high battery life for office works.

Bluetooth, WiFi and webcam are common features in most laptops so include it. One year is the popular warranty period for most laptops so there is not much choice there. Look for the cheapest laptop with all these features.

Considering all your needs like you told, warranty, Performance considerable speeds, Reliability good battery but you don’t mention in any scale like what you really need considering speed heavy speed like Intel Core i7, or normal like core 2 due. How much battery life you need like there are many kind of that like average is 3 to 4 hours on the other hand high as much as 8 hours.

As having the experience I recommended you to buy HP Compaq for low end user with configure like Intel Core i3 processor and 3 GHz ram like 2 GB or 3 GB video card like 512 MB to 1 GB, battery life like 4 hours. Compaq gives good service.
