Barracuda Web Filter (Model 210) problem using https

Hello,

I have a barracuda Model 210 web filter.

I plainly use this as a web filter in our small office so they can't access social networking media and other sites that is eating up a lot of bandwidth that will hinder our VOIP performance.

Our network is setup as a domain and the firewall works but when a user types https://www.domain.com/, though the domain is blocked, it will let them access it using https.

I tried blocking https and to no avail.

Thanks in Advance!

HTTPSis a Uniform Resource Identifier or URI that is used to indicate a secure HTTP connection.

It is the combination of a normal HTTP connection over an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or a Transport Layer Security (TLS) and uses port 443.

To be able to filter sites that use secured connection, you can use WFilter Enterprise to filter connections.

WFilter can be downloaded .

This application is compatible with these operating systems:

  • Windows 2000 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows 2003 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows 2008 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit

To filter sites that use HTTPS connections:

  1. Download and install WFilter.
  2. Click Others tab.
  3. Check Enable HTTPS Black/White List.

  4. Add HTTPS sites in the Black List just like in the image below and then click Save.

This is only a trial version and can only monitor up to 8 workstations and has 15 days to expire.
