Avg antivirus doesn't run a complete scan. When I start scanning it goes for like 30% and then stops automatically.

What is the version of your AVG anti-virus? The reason why I asked is because sometimes if your AVG is already out-dated you may need to update it first for it to work or scan completely on your computer. You may do the update directly if you have the AVG Free application. All you have to do is click on the “Check For Updates” button which will let your AVG update automatically. It is important that you perform all the updates from your AVG Interface. Here are the steps on how to do the update directly from your AVG antivirus:

  1. Open the AVG program
  2. Go to Tools
  3. Click on Advanced Setting
  4. On the lower left column under updates, click on Manage to open the Update management
  5. Delete the temporary update files
  6. Update again by clicking on Yes

Problems like this happen most of the time in most applications on the computer and can normally be fixed by simply re-installing the affected program or programs. First, check if the program will really stop at certain point by doing it a couple of times. If you are positive that the program will really not continue after reaching a certain point, try re-installing it. It would be best to install it again using the program’s latest version. And since it is AVG, you can download the latest version.

If you are already using the latest version and it is the version that’s causing the problem, try deleting temporary files on your computer.

  • Click Start then Run. Type without quotes “cmd” then hit Enter.
  • Next, type without quotes “cdwindowstemp” then press Enter.
  • Enter without quotes “del *.tmp” then press Enter. Type without quotes “exit” to close the command prompt afterwards.

Empty the recycle bin and then try re-installing your antivirus.
