For the nth time, an avcenter.exe – Bad Image error pops up on my screen. Rebooting is a possible solution. However, I’m having second thoughts because doing so with an inactive anti-virus is too risky for my PC.

CTL32.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains
an error. Try installing theprogram again using the original
installation media or contact your system administrator or the
software vendor for support.

What’s going on? Why did my Avira crash?

Hallo Suttie,

The following, C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_none_41e6975e2bd6f2b2\COMCTL32.dll could be either not designed to run on Windows version that you are using or it could be having an error.

To resolve that issue, you will need to:

  • try installing the program again using the original installation media
  • contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support in case the error persists even after the reinstallation.

You may also need to perform a full scan of your system using latest  and updated Malwarebyte Anti Malware, and then after that reboot the computer. Try launching Avira 2012 update from the System Tray icon and see if it will run successfully.

Regards,

Carl
