How can I stop such error messages from occurring in Avast?


avast! has detected a secure connection from your mail program (process thunderbird.exe) to the SMTP server (insightbb.com).

This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your mail. The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself.

Avast information regarding Mail Scanner

Hi there James,
This is a usual problem that happens when you are either using the e-mail provider that requires SSL or have some ports out of sync with the connection type.
The easiest fix is to open the menu Tools, select Account settings – Outgoing server (SMTP) – Security and Authentication and change the option "Use Secure Connection" from "TLS" to "Use TLS, if available".
