Hi guys,

I am what is considered to be a newbie, and I've done all that's in my power to help myself, but it seems that I need some professional help now. Here's my problem:

While checking mails in the internet (via Firefox) my free avast! Antivirus popped up, stating something about a Trojan or whatever, telling me to better open it in "sandbox-mode". Before I could check what was happening I've got a blue screen and the PC got shut down.

From there on I've got the avast error code 10050, saying "Avast will not be able to protect outgoing mail…" and I've no connection to the internet anymore. The avast error pops up every time I restart the computer. Connection to the internet is lost!

I have two w-lan networks I can connect to.

Both of them won't work

Hello Elyssa,

Have you tried running the Mail protection wizard yet.

If you haven't, you will need to do that by going to the start menu, and then choosing Avast antivirus.

In case you click ctrl + del + del, do you the following program running: ashMaiSv.exe running?

It is not you may need to start it.

You will also need to check the mail settings.

Make sure that the server address for the POP as well as SMTP has been set to 127.0.0.1 with the POP server name set to: username#pop.isp.com and the SMTP server name to username#smtp.isp.com

Another thing you should do is check the Avast help file for Setting up mail Protection.

Try switching your email client and then run the Mail Protection Wizard.

Regards,

Carl

Since you were checking your emails with Mozilla Firefox before the problem happened, it is possible that you may have downloaded an attachment that contains malicious program. If an error from Avast antivirus keeps popping up but you can still boot your computer, try to uninstall the antivirus from the Control Panel then restart the computer when you are prompted.

After booting, try using the System File Checker utility. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “cmd” then hit Enter. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows setup CD or DVD when you are prompted then continue. Wait until the process is complete.

When it is finished, close the command prompt then restart the computer. After booting, open your web browser then visit a safe website like Google.com to verify if the internet connection is back. If you still don’t have internet connection, try to uninstall and reinstall your network adapter. Click “Start” then right-click “Computer” and select “Manage”. In “Computer Management” window, select “Device Manager” on the left pane.

In the middle pane, expand “Network adapters” then right-click your network adapter and select “Uninstall”.

When it is finished, restart the computer. After booting, install your network adapter back. See if this fixes your internet connection. Also, try checking your network cable. Disconnect the network cable from the network port at the back of the CPU then plug it back in. See if this works. If this doesn’t work, disconnect the other end of the cable from the Wi-Fi router then connect it back.

See if this works. If this doesn’t work, restart your router. If your router has a power button, press it to turn it off then unplug it from the power for about ten to twenty seconds (10 – 20). Press any button on the router to drain any leftover power or to power cycle.

After this, plug the router back to the power and turn it on. See if this works. Once your internet connection is restored, install the latest Avast Antivirus.
