Well, there could be a lot of reasons why your computer may lag. If you think that the automatic update is the one causing it, I would recommend that you go to task manager by clicking on CTRL+ALT+DEL and check which of the running programs are really doing it.

End them then turn off the automatic updates. You may also try reinstalling your Operating System which will not make you lose any of your important files, although I still suggest that you back them up just in case any other issues may occur. As they always say, it is better to be safe than be sorry.

Hi there,

Two things are causing this problem.

1. Increase your RAM by adding another RAM module.

2. Very sad to say that Huge loads of Malwares and or Viruses are Playing with your system. You must be very careful while using External devices to install Softwares and other stuffs and also while using Network.

Its really horrible and tough to fight with viruses and only a PC expert geek could do remove SOME of the common viruses.

Better install a GOOD Antivirus and or Internet security.

I personally Recommends Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. It works great. It catches almost all the viruses and also very smooth to operate. What problem kaspersky has till its 2011 versions was slow updates. Now they have solved the problem.

Go try download the trial version and try it for 30 days and if and only if you liked then buy the license for 1 year.

Hello Lesten,

I took your advise and bought another 2 GB. I now have 2.5gb of ram in total. I also reformatted the system and it now runs fast and smooth. I also installed the Kaspersky 2012 and I now feel more secure about my files. Thank you very much for the advise. Will head back to techyv if something unexpected comes up. This site is full of talented people. Thanks again!
